Writing. Art. Music. Passion. Time management.
Seem a little incongruous? Well, they’re not, really. If you want to pursue any of the first four, you’ll need to master Number 5.
Because following your passion is often at odds with your daily responsibilities as a parent, employee, friend, family member, cook, housecleaner … the list goes on. And let’s face it — the thing that gets left by the wayside when you have two hours each evening to do 100 things isn’t the sinkful of dirty dishes or the pile of laundry on the floor.
Too often, it’s your passion, the thing that makes you happy and feeds your soul. That little bit of creativity, of physical or mental exercise, that you do for yourself. This is what I want to use this blog to talk about — how all of us can make room for our passions in our busy lives.
For me, it’s about creating — writing and knitting, mostly — while fulfilling my responsibilities as a mother, daughter, friend, bread winner and dog owner.
Add to my list my love of travel, cooking and trying to live a European lifestyle in a place that regrettably does not embrace the siesta, and it seems like almost too much. But without these things, my life would be empty, dull and unsatisfying, and I’m sure it’s the same with you. Don’t you just feel better when you follow your passion? When you add a little bit of beauty to the world? When you’ve done something that makes you feel like you know a human being should feel?
It’s all about balance, about doing what you need to do without neglecting your responsibilities. So how does one go about finding and living that balance from day to day?
Wish I had the answer.
But … that’s what this blog is all about. Here is where we can strive together to help each other find the balance we need between duty and passion. Here, we can share our trials and tribulations as well as our tips and tricks for following your passion in the midst of your full-time life. Here, we’ll offer a shoulder, lend an ear, give thoughtful advice, but most of all, have fun.
So, enough with the manifesto. Tell me: What is your passion and how do you make time and space to pursue the activities that give your life meaning?
